My lawyer is not telling me how much they will ask the other side for in damages in a court ordered settlement.

Question

They are not giving much information as far as numbers. This bothers me. What are my rights as a client that they share this information with me?

Answer

If it's a settlement 'conference', your lawyer should be open with you about the prospects of settling, or not, as the case may be. Certain entities in NYC will low-ball at a settlement conference, and the case won't actually settle until later, regardless of the 'settlement conference', or maybe there's a 'no-pay' position and the case will have to be tried. Your attorney should be honest in managing your expectations.
